Our school has learning support teachers who work with students either in class or in small groups. The focus of the learning support teacher is to develop the literacy and numeracy skills of the students. They also play a key role in supporting teachers with further ideas on how to develop the literacy and numeracy needs.

The learning support teacher is responsible for the overall management of student learning data. This process monitors individual student progress and identifies areas and subsequent steps to support student learning and improvement.

Since 2011, the ‘let’s go’ program has been supporting students in reading, writing, grammar and punctuation, spelling and numeracy. This data driven program provides specific and targeted intervention to meet student needs. Included in the program is support to extend high performing students even further. Since the program’s inception, the school’s progress rate from year to year has outperformed that of the national rate of NAPLAN progress. As a result, Mount Morgan Central State School has been identified as one of central Queensland’s most improved schools in national (NAPLAN) testing.

Supporting our highest performing year five students in reading is our involvement in the central Queensland regions online and innovative program, project 600, which operated in terms one and two.
