Literacy and Numeracy PDF Print E-mail

At Mount Morgan Central, we consider the following areas fundamental across all of our approaches to teaching and learning:

  • Intervention to support students at Risk
  • Implementation of Essential Learnings and QCARF (Queensland Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Framework) and
  • the Teaching and Learning of Numeracy

All within the context of a Safe and Supportive School Environment.

We are committed to ensuring that all students develop strong foundation in literacy and numeracy, particularly in the early years (P-3) as a basis for progress in all future learning. We provide intensive support for students at risk or not at benchmark levels (identified in years 3, 5 and 7) through means that endeavour to be of interest to the learner, working with Learning Support personnel across campuses (Mount Morgan High). As students progress through schooling, they develop effective and critical literacy and numeracy skills to support successful participation across all areas of schooling and life. Our English and Mathematics programs focus explicitly on Literacy and Numeracy, however exposure is not limited to these areas. Our Curriculum (currently under QCARF review), is constructed in a manner that considers literacy and numeracy across all Key Learning Areas (Science, Studies of Society and the Environment, The Arts, Technology, Information & Communication Technologies etc.,) creating informed citizens of the future.
